Coming off the back of Fendi’s historical collaboration with Versace, Fendi has announced a collaboration with Kim Kardashian West’s undergarment and leisure clothing brand SKIMS. By picking partnerships that excite the fashion world and a wide range of customers, Fendi’s Kim Jones keeps expanding Fendi’s reach and ascends its status as a brand for every woman.
The items in the collection, and their prices, are yet to be released. However, we have seen snapshots of the items on Fendi’s and SKIMS’ social media profiles, and Kim Kardashian West has shown off racks holding the collection on her Instagram stories. The items are shown in the story highlight that the collection combines SKIMS’ shapewear with Fendi’s hosiery and everyday wear. Specifically, we see sports bras, skin-tight dresses, leather wiggle dresses, puffer coats, gloves, leggings, tights, bodysuits, underwear and swimwear. These items are shown in a variety of colours, from SKIMS’ signature nude colours through to Fendi’s brighter shades like pink, purple, red and orange. Excitingly the collection also includes Fendi’s iconic bags, the Baguette Chain and Sunshine Shopper and new heels.
Promotional material for the collaboration seems to indicate that the collection will honour SKIMS commitment to size inclusivity. Multiple images show plus-size models wearing items from the collection. Kim Jones has praised Kardashian West’s devotion to inclusivity, saying, “Kim Kardashian West is doing a lot to celebrate inclusivity – and as a hard-working woman with a family she is constantly striving to do the best”.
The world is seeing growing demand for leisurewear and activewear, and Fendi is one of the first luxury brands to venture into this space with a collection. A collaboration with SKIMS shows Jones’ acknowledgement that luxury fashion needs to expand into this space. It is an intelligent business decision to partner with one of the most popular activewear and leisure brands. Jones has expressed that “my Fendi is about creating something for every woman, every different shape – and that’s something at the heart of SKIMS too”. Kim Kardashian West agreed, saying that “the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned”.
SKIMS has been going from strength to strength since it was founded in 2019. The brand partnered with the American Olympic team to provide female athletes with underwear and loungewear. Their slip dress went viral on TikTok and was frequently sold out with a huge waitlist. Furthermore, their celebrity wearers include Kate Moss, Kendall Jenner, Heidi Klum, Sabrina Elba, Chrissy Teigen, Ashley Graham and Megan Fox.
